LD 1619 Offshore Wind Passed

Offshore Wind (OSW) is coming at us fast, and will continue to do so until they stop throwing money at it. We spent hundreds of hours on zoom calls and in zoom hearings trying to stop offshore wind then figuring out how to move our fishery forward with the least impacts. We were successful in getting a council with fishing seats appointed to help with the placement of OSW in federal waters. We now have a fund that will go towards independent 3rd party science from the research array. The science from this project is very important. Commercial projects in LMA1 will have added restrictions where they must mitigate impacts to fisheries. The research array will give us the impacts they need to mitigate, depending on the severity it may be enough to push them out of LMA1 and with the historical data we have from mandatory reporting we should be able to take areas of importance off the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) leasing catalog they put up for auction. Responsible Offshore Development Alliance (RODA) is also working with us to bring the federal delegation together for all the states dealing with OSW and asking them to pressure BOEM and NOAA demanding they respect and uphold agreements made between States and fishing industries while moving OSW forward.
